Dear Govt,
I would like to thank you for all your hard work in recent months to convince me and others like me we needed a change for this country. I’m ecstatic to hear the first order of business was ratifying the Kyoto agreement, even if it is meaningless without the US ratification or the inclusion of developing countries such as India and CHina. NOt to mention Australia was already well ahead of the limits, but still, what a poignant gesture.
I’d also like to thank you on insisting on a climate of change following 11 years of economic stability and low unemployment rates. Whether your own terms and policies are for better or worse, i guess we’ll find out.
I would also like to thank you for your work on the Ipswich Motorway. I’m grateful you closed the Gailes on-ramp, thus ensuring my trip to work every morning is now a minimum of 15 minutes longer. It’s also nice to see how smoothly the motorway itself is running while I spend those 15 minutes attempting to cross the bridge at Wacol. I should be grateful I can now spend 2 hours travelling 25 km to work and basically eradicating the Kyoto agreement with the amount of extra carbon emissions I will be exhorting. I’m also looking forward to increasing my journey home with the new traffic lights and waiting for the traffic from the LOgan Motorway to cross over. It reminds me of the old days on the Centenary roundabout, before they got rid of those traffic lights when it would take 20 minutes just to get onto the roundabout itself.
ON a more local note, Thank you to the state government. I’m pleased to see after doing nothing to ensure a steady supply of water for a rapidly-growing population, you’ve followed it up with absolutely nothing except threats, fines and the start of a new craze, water-rage. How pleasant to be living in the capital city with the lowest water supply and a government incapable to do anything about it except pray. WHat I find most impressive is the way you’ve brainwashed people into thinking you’ve done the right thing in not preparing new dams and supplies 10 years ago and somehow making pool-owners and those who believe we shouldn’t be paying more for our right to have access to water the “baddies” in this situation. Well done.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this one-party country will evolve and I’m sure you’ll do a brilliant job of it. Of course, I’ll be watching from the window on the other side of the world. I especially want to thank you for convincing me that one-way ticket was the best thing I ever bought.
Love always,
A dissatisfied ex-pat.
