GossipGirl – That motherchucker! S02 – ep01

Ooh yes biyatches, it’s time to sharpen those claws, prepare those mascara whips and get ready to rumble, as the second season of Gossip Girl throws itself onto our screens and manages to surprise me even though I read up on spoilers. Totally accidentally, of course.

Where to begin?

Sweet little Jenny, who’s an aspiring designer in a city of cold hard steel. Who tried so desperately to fit in and it all backfired on her. What’s in store this year? jenny is fleshing out as a solid character, and i was actually rooting for her, which was a pleasant surprise. Particularly when her scenes involved Eric, because I love Eric (and let me just say how grateful I am his hair no logner has those blonde highlights in it because, ick). I didn’t really like Jenny last year, seeing just how cold-hearted she had become for the sake of being cool? Maybe it’s just me, after all, apparently Vanessa wasn’t a popular character, and yet I liked her, because she didn’t care about cool. She was who she was and everyone had to live with it, end of story. But they seem to be giving her something to work with, rather than drawing out the whole jenny wants to fit in and be cool story, they’re giving her a new avenue, and I’m so far intrigued as to where we’ll end up.

And Eric? Why no more Eric? I want more, and I want him with a new boyfriend! Someone really hot, to totally shut everyone up. More Eric, jsut so i can talk about more than how his hair has vastly improved.

I was a little worried what was happening with Nate and Serena, but it was a fake relationship…and no Vanessa, which ok, little sad, but I m so grateful they didn’t do the stupid thing and put Dan and Vanessa and Serena and Nate together…and thank god, Serena and Dan made up at the end! Oh happy day! I wasn’t sure if they would or not, I really thought they were breaking them up for this season (Not that it won’t stop them, after all, these 2 create the car collision following the train wreck which occurred right after the plane fell out of the sky) but I a so grateful they did, because a season of watching them pine way for each other while getting it on with people, while watching everyone else do the same does not make good tv!

And let me, say, Dan? Getting round in order to get over Serena? Hmm…extremely out of character. Their whole get back together sequence was a little weird, particularly since he didn’t want to listen to her after she was seen kissing Nate, and only came around when he had to admit he’d been sleeping around…what the? At that point, Serena should have turned around and gone, pining for me, hey? And thrown her drink on him and walked off…but no, she’s happy to see he’s come off his pedestal and they swan off together to the beach.

And her grandmother…..either has extremely creepy twisted evil notions for this relationship or has been taken over by aliens…i’ve never seen a more strident 360 in a character before!

But Blair and Chuck…oh my, the tension, the chemistry, I wanted to reach into the tv and kiss Chuck! That man is gorgeously and ridiculously sexy. And him and Blair are awesome together, and they’re even better when they’re apart, so I like the fact they’re keeping them separated. I enjoy seeing the two of them play each other, but I’m worried about them castrating Chuck too much, we’ll see what happens throughout the season. I’ve heard rather weird things and I’m a little scared how they’ll turn out. But I love how even though Blair is angry with Chuck, she wants to go running back into his arms, she does want to be with him, but only if he tells her he loves her. Sweet!

So final verdict?

I’m happy, ecstatic even. This show grew on me surprisingly quickly, and became extremely addictive. I love what they’ve done in this one episode – while continuing the development of the characters, they’ve turned them on their heads from the previous seasons, so what we’ll get is a new direction for the show, rather than a rehash of the same bored storylines we’ve already sat an entire season through. This is a terrific indication of a good show, good scriptwriters…and well, the actors are alright. I guess.

But the return I’m happiest about? Gossip Girl’s narration. Oh how I missed you Veronica! You make y days go by with spring in my step and a snark in my throat! Don’t leave me like that ever again (Unless you bring Weevil, in which case, by all means! The more, the merrier!
